Sultans Trail is a footpath from Vienna to Istanbul and it’s 2200 km long. The path follows the medieval route of sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, who led the Ottoman army to conquest from Istanbul to Vienna. It starts in Austria and includes Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece and leads all the way to Turkey. Unlike its past, the Sultans Trail nowadays forms a path of peace, a meeting place for people of all religions and cultures. The trail starts at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in the centre of Vienna and ends at the tomb of the sultan in Istanbul. Sultans Trail passes through the northeastern, continental part of Croatia over seven hiking days. A significant part of the Croatian route follows the Drava and Danube rivers. This lowland area is also known as the Pannonian Plain, Slavonia, Baranja and Syrmia. The road passes through towns and villages: Topolje, Draž, Podolje, Popovac, Beli Manastir, Karanac, Kneževi Vinogradi, Grabovac, Darda, Osijek, Đakovo, Vinkovci, Vukovar, Opatovac, Šarengrad and Ilok.
